Yes it’s true folks. Chad Ochocinco isn’t even sponsored by McDonald’s yet he is very vocal about how much he eats there. He claims to love it. He is probably my favorite player in the NFL. The dude is just awesome in my opinion. I ran into this video on youtube and I was BLOWN AWAY. Skip to 2:30.

When I saw the video below, frankly, I got a little pissed. I mean, I have gone through so much effort to transform my appetite and desires to get the results I have. I’ve sacrificed ALOT. I use to love McDonalds (haven’t eaten there in years). How could this guy be eating McDonalds 3 meals a day and get these kind of results? How could he possibly remain so lean? Well I was determined to figure this paradox out. After a bit of internet research I found the answer.

Washington, Mar 20 : A team of American researchers has identified a gene that plays a critical regulatory role in the process of converting dietary carbohydrates to fat.

In a new study, researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, disabled this gene in mice, which consequently had lower levels of body fat than their normal counterparts, despite being fed the equivalent of an all-you-can-eat pasta buffet.

The authors of the study say that the gene, called DNA-PK, could potentially play a role in the prevention of obesity related to the over-consumption of high-carbohydrate foods, such as pasta, rice, soda and sugary snacks.

DNA-PK, which stands for DNA-dependent protein kinase, has already been the subject of much research because it helps repair breaks in the DNA.

Suppression of DNA-PK has been used as a technique by researchers to enhance the ability of cancer treatments to kill tumour cells.

Its role in fat synthesis came as a surprise to the UC Berkeley researchers.

“It turns out that DNA-PK is critical to a metabolic process we have been trying to understand for 20 years,” said Hei Sook Sul, a professor in UC Berkeley”s Department of Nutritional Science & Toxicology and head of the research team behind these new findings.

“For the first time, we have connected DNA-PK to the signaling pathway involved in the formation of fat from carbohydrates in the liver. Identifying this signaling pathway involving DNA-PK brings us one step forward in understanding obesity resulting from a diet high in carbohydrates, and could possibly serve as a potential pharmacological target for obesity prevention,” Sul added.

The study is to be published in the March 20 issue of the journal Cell. (ANI)

Again, this isn’t about drinking mother’s milk…so keep reading. Sam’s post yesterday reminded me of my own experience with going over board worrying about fat – or the lack there of – so I thought I would share it for today’s “Do What You Know” post.

When I first started getting heavily into wellness/fitness I was pretty uninformed to say the least. I knew I was fat, had lost a bit of weight, and wanted to continue loosing more. My thought process was simple – and it probably wasn’t too far off from what the average person thought.

If I want to lose fat, I need to stop eating fat.

D. Introduce to the concept of ‘mixing and matching’
E. Give specific examples of what I eat and how you can start to make meals based on this philosophy

1. Normalize your insulin levels and keep them regulated by eating between 50-150 grams of carbs per day
2. Maximize nutrition content by eating a lot of live, natural foods
3. Gain a balance on the ratio of omega 3 to 6 fatty acids while getting plenty of healthy fats
4. Optimize the amount and quality of protein needed for your body
5. Make it taste good and eat until you’re comfortably full

american dietIt isn’t hard to look around and see that something is wrong. Something is seriously WRONG. I’m at a book store right now, and out of the 10 people within my sight, there is only 1 of them that isn’t overweight. I’m not saying this to be a jerk or because I secretely look up to Ben Stiller’s character in the movie Dodgeball, I’m saying this to be REAL. I’m a sincere person, and I really care about people. To be honest, I’m a little pissed off that it has come to this point. I’m mad. I don’t feel that people were meant to live this way. People weren’t meant to feel lousy about themselves. People weren’t met to have no energy. People weren’t meant to live life battling ailments and prescriptions that cause even more ailments. People weren’t meant to be unathletic and sluggish. We ARE ALL ATHLETES. We were meant to live active lives. We were meant to have an abundance of energy and physical vitality. I’m passionate because I SEE the matrix behind this. Most people don’t. They’ve accepted the norm. They’ve lost hope. They’ve given up. They have NO STANDARDS and so they inner rationalize and never take action to change.
