2 FOUNDATIONS TO FILTER HEALTH ADVICE
Posted by: | Comments
I walked into the book store today and couldn’t help but overhear an overweight man giving advice to an overweight woman. The new magic pill was “an alkalizing green drink” that would cure all her overweight and health issues. She was diligently taking notes on what he had to say… Read More→
SUPERSIZE IT?
Posted by: | Comments
“Strategic management is about two things, gaining competitive advantage, and maximizing profitability.” Said my teacher in the capstone business school class. I raised my hand, “why?” Familiar question that I often ask. “Why can’t a corporation be satisfied with providing real value for real people without the need to maximize profitability or gain an edge? Why can’t they just self sustain?” In other words, why supersize it? The teacher had no answer. That night he posted a response on the classes interactive website. Something to the tune of “Sam’s question was perplexing, and honestly, there is no answer for why maximizing profitability and competitive advantage is the nature of corporations.” He went on to expound and summed it up with an “it is what it is” statement.
The class was somewhat of an annoyance for me. It turned me off from business. I had spent 4 years getting a degree teaching me to work for some selfish entity? When looking at whether a company should be environmentally responsible, the issue was approached from a “what will it cost to care vs. what will it cost to not care.” When looking at hiring, firing, laying off, human resources in general, it was looked from a “will it lead to maximizing profit and gaining a competitive advantage.” This was the almighty filter for strategic management: selfishness.

HAVING A HEALTHY, FIT, YOUTHFUL BODY HINGES ON THE PRODUCTION OF THIS ONE HORMONE
Posted by: | Comments
What hormone you ask? Human Growth Hormone or HGH. Human growth hormone (HGH) is a protein produced by the pituitary gland. It is considered to be the ‘fountain of youth.’ Here’s a list of roles it plays in the body:
-Conversion of body fat to muscle mass
-Growth of all tissues
-Energy level
-Tissue repair
-Whole body healing
-Cell replacement
-Bone strength
-Brain function
-Sexual function
-Organ health and integrity
-Enzyme production
-Integrity of hair, nails, skin and vital organs
The bottom line? When your body produces less of it (which it will unless you do proactive things to avoid this) you will wither away. When your body produces more of it, you will thrive.
So what happens when your body starts producing more of it? Read More→
5 WAYS YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND IS SCREWING YOU AND KEEPING YOU FROM WHAT YOU WANT
Posted by: | Comments
Your subconscious mind is a powerful machine. Don’t think it’s controlling your life and keeping you from becoming who you want to be? Think again. Here are 5 ways your subconscious mind might be keeping your from following through with ‘doing what you know.’
1. IT ASSOCIATES PAIN TO TAKING RIGHT ACTION ON A CONSISTENT BASIS
RIGHT ACTION=following through, doing what you know around nutrition and training.
On a subconscious level, our minds are wired to avoid pain, and also wired to seek out ways to gain pleasure. Both physical pain and pleasure, and emotional pain and pleasure. It is the basis behind our survival. If the burner is hot and gives us physical pain, we avoid it in the future. What’s called a NEURO ASSOCIATION is made between a hot burner and pain. To your mind, hot burner = pain. This is a fantastic system! Now we don’t have to think about whether to put our hands on a hot burner! However, like a virus infested computer, sometimes it can go ‘mad’ and screw up.

CHAD OCHOCINCO EATS MCDONALDS 3 MEALS A DAY?
Posted by: | CommentsYes it’s true folks. Chad Ochocinco isn’t even sponsored by McDonald’s yet he is very vocal about how much he eats there. He claims to love it. He is probably my favorite player in the NFL. The dude is just awesome in my opinion. I ran into this video on youtube and I was BLOWN AWAY. Skip to 2:30.
When I saw the video below, frankly, I got a little pissed. I mean, I have gone through so much effort to transform my appetite and desires to get the results I have. I’ve sacrificed ALOT. I use to love McDonalds (haven’t eaten there in years). How could this guy be eating McDonalds 3 meals a day and get these kind of results? How could he possibly remain so lean? Well I was determined to figure this paradox out. After a bit of internet research I found the answer.
Washington, Mar 20 : A team of American researchers has identified a gene that plays a critical regulatory role in the process of converting dietary carbohydrates to fat.
In a new study, researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, disabled this gene in mice, which consequently had lower levels of body fat than their normal counterparts, despite being fed the equivalent of an all-you-can-eat pasta buffet.
The authors of the study say that the gene, called DNA-PK, could potentially play a role in the prevention of obesity related to the over-consumption of high-carbohydrate foods, such as pasta, rice, soda and sugary snacks.
DNA-PK, which stands for DNA-dependent protein kinase, has already been the subject of much research because it helps repair breaks in the DNA.
Suppression of DNA-PK has been used as a technique by researchers to enhance the ability of cancer treatments to kill tumour cells.
Its role in fat synthesis came as a surprise to the UC Berkeley researchers.
“It turns out that DNA-PK is critical to a metabolic process we have been trying to understand for 20 years,” said Hei Sook Sul, a professor in UC Berkeley”s Department of Nutritional Science & Toxicology and head of the research team behind these new findings.
“For the first time, we have connected DNA-PK to the signaling pathway involved in the formation of fat from carbohydrates in the liver. Identifying this signaling pathway involving DNA-PK brings us one step forward in understanding obesity resulting from a diet high in carbohydrates, and could possibly serve as a potential pharmacological target for obesity prevention,” Sul added.
The study is to be published in the March 20 issue of the journal Cell. (ANI)
MYTHBUSTERS: WHAT NUTRITIONAL FACTS OF MOTHERS MILK CAN TEACH US
Posted by: | Comments
First of all, this isn’t about drinking mothers milk! So keep reading…… Recently I became interested in the nutritional facts of mothers milk. Why? Because I’m weird :). Actually, I had this thought hit me: “cow’s milk has cholesterol, it has fat, it has saturated fat, I’ll bet mothers milk does too.” As we all know, cholesterol, fat, and especially saturated fat have been labeled evil by advocators of mainstream understanding. In fact, I’d be willing to bet that 99 out of 100 nutritionist would tell you to avoid cholesterol, fat, and especially saturated fat like the plague. Well as many of you know, I simply don’t think the studies linking consuming fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol being CAUSAL to heart disease and other illness to be accurate.
Why? Simple. It doesn’t make sense. If you look at evolutionary biology, human beings evolved eating PLENTY, and I mean PLENTY, of fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol. So all of a sudden fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol is killing us? Doesn’t make much sense to me. I don’t believe god is stupid. I also don’t believe our bodies didn’t not evolve to eat meat, eggs, nuts, seeds, etc. (all contain either fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, or all three). Read More→
